Fri 12 Sep, 2025 Walk: A Taste of Wondabyne
Wonderful Wondabyne is a remote location beside Mullet Creek feeding into the Hawkesbury River. There is the smallest of railway stations but no road access.
The plan is to catch the train to Wondabyne, walk uphill to a track fork near the top of a 160 metre climb, take in the air, congratulate ourselves on the achievement and turn around and go back down. Longer walks are available but they are for another day. We’ll then sit on the platform by Mullet Creek, wave down an oncoming train which will honk its horn to advise that it has seen us, and will stop.
We’ll hop off the train at Hawkesbury River for Koffee at the King Tide Kafe 150 metres from the station and catch the next train. ETA back in Thirroul 5:10pm or 6;02, Wollongong 5:22 or 6:14. A full day out for a 5k walk.

Mainly Grade 3, but we will venture off track to visit some interesting (not often seen) POIs. We will start at the Abrahams Bosom car park and make our way up to Merimbula Trig before heading on to Beecroft Head. From here we’ll work down to the base of Old Man’s Hat and beyond (pretty scratchy for the first 50m). Very spectacular!!! (you’ll need to be confident rock scrambling.) We’ll then work our way south and scramble down into Moore’s Inlet/Eves Ravine so we can admire where we’ve been. If time permits, we will continue south, traversing past three ravines before heading back to the cars. Joint walk with Shoalhaven Bushwalkers.

Walk from the top of Macquarie Pass to the bottom. Starting on an old bullock track then off track to Clover Hill Rd. Final descent through the Cascades to the bottom at Macquarie Rivulet. Car shuffle required between top and bottom.

After this, we’ll follow the faint track for spectacular views of the sea caves at Paradise Rocks which we’ll traverse around to and then follow the fire trail back to the cars. Possible swimming opportunities along the way or at Green Patch on the way back.
This is an easy Grade 4 walk but it is Grade 4. You’ll need to be comfortable walking over rough terrain.
