Tue 02 Feb, 2021   Walk: Kangaroo River, Robertson to the Valley

Leader: Edward Popham    View Leaders List

Budderro NP.  Fountaindale Road Robertson to Flat Rock Upper Kangaroo Valley via partly off track in the River.  Car shuffle walk.  Please register interest early with at least one partner as you will need 2 cars.  e.g. 2-5  people can do the shuffle.  Core Leader party is already full up so your shuffle party will need to provide additional transport.

Relatively easy downhill walk as long as you are willing to get wet feet up to your nether regions depending on water levels.  Any kind of flood levels we will cancel to later on in the month.  Reason for doing it in hot weather is the cold at other times.  Please do not come expecting a dry route to be found because there is no practical route other than the river.  Strong reef walker shoes/thick woolly socks and light aerated walking shoes have been used.  If you can wear volleys then they are ideal.

Done it before in Feb and we only saw one snake.  Well formed track from the parking spot to Dtharowal Creek and Missingham Steps.

Minor rock climbing down Missingham Steps.  Mostly walking on ledges and rock plateau in the river.  Some minor rock climbing to get around obstacles.  There is plenty of shade and swimming holes but you cannot risk drinking the water.

March 21 – 25, 2021

It’s the 22nd anniversary for this trip and it will be a trip like no other given the situation in Kosciuszko NP and surrounds. Some of the regular walks have been heavily impacted by fire, some Snowy huts and other infrastructure destroyed but others not, so we’ll need to carefully select which areas to visit. Importantly we will have the opportunity to survey and learn what’s doing with recovery of the landscape by then while offering support to the impacted communities of the region. Base at caravan park with camping, powered site or cabin options. Joint trip with NPA, combined limit applies. Contact leader for more trip detail.
