Wed 03 Apr, 2024 Walk: Bondi to Maroubra; Spotting the Most Opulent Reno Series, Walk 1.
First of a series of three walks through the Eastern Suburbs with the subtitle of who can spot the most opulent reno along the way. Having walked from Palm Beach to Manly I know that the most expensive Sydney renos are in Whale Beach/Palm Beach due solely to the quality of sandstone quarried for the reno.
So this is about the most opulent reno. Other walks in the series will be Double Bay to Watsons Bay and then Watsons Bay to Bondi.
This walk has excellent views.
Easy walking on pavement or boardwalks at an easy pace.

Sat 20 Apr, 2024 Walk: Yalwal Trig and Goldmines
Joint walk with Shoalhaven Bushwalkers. Mainly on trail/track with small off track section. We start at the end of the Yalwal Road with a visit to the disused cemetery before the steep ascent up the Yarramunmun Fire Trail (250m height gain in roughly 2km all on track before heading to rocky summit of Yalwal Trig. (Numerous rock carvings relating to the goldmines). A short, steep but safe descent (200m off-track – genuine grade 4 territory) to an overgrown track which is followed to the mine shaft where micro bats live. We then visit a unique open cast mine for lunch with many opportunities to explore. Finally we’ll head out to a stamper which lies on the bank of the flooded Danjera Creek before returning to the vehicles. Many ups and Downs.
There is a chance that the micro bat cave entrance will be flooded (ankle deep) so river shoes/crocs may be a good idea as well as a head torch.
Reccied on 5/1/24
Sat 04 May, 2024 Walk: Fitzroy Falls to Manandoo Point
This walk is mostly on-track, however the final 800m are off-track through recently burnt open scrub. Starting at the Fitzroy Falls car park we’ll walk out along the West Rim Track to Renown Lookout taking in the very impressive waterfall views at all the lookouts along the way. We then follow fire trails which eventually peter out at the ruins of an old stone hut. After this there is the off-track section south to spectacular views from Manandoo Point before retracing our steps back to the cars.

Sat 18 May, 2024 Walk: Calymea Hill and Pulpit Rock
Joint walk with Shoalhaven Bushwalkers. Located near Bamerang, west of Nowra, a trip to Calymea Hill, a prominent and often overlooked landmark offering impressive views across Calymea Creek, the Shoalhaven River and Pulpit Rock whilst walking between impressive rock formations.
The walk essentially consists of two loops. The first part of the walk is entirely off-track and will head south from the Yalwal Road to the unnamed hill NE of Calymea Hill. We will then work our way across the saddle and through the summit escarpment to Calymea Trig. From here we return to our parked cars, cross the road and start the second loop following the track to the top of Pulpit Rock. We then descend the ridge on/off track and follow the top of the escarpment above the Shoalhaven River behind the Water Treatment Works from which we’ll return to the cars.
An ideal opportunity for Grade 3 walkers to sample off-track walking in non-stressful circumstances.
