If you register for an activity or trip away then find you cannot attend, please advise the leader as soon as possible.

Non-members are welcome to attend two one-day activities before joining, but must contact the leader to discuss the activity and register.

Tue 07 Apr, 2026   Cycle: Towradgi to Thirroul via Stuart Park

With Monday a public holiday and Tuesday with a ride limited to 10, an additional Tuesday ride seems to be in order.

Meet at Towradgi, ride south to Stuart Park, do a U-turn and head back via Towradgi to Thirroul. Plenty of quality scenery. The holidaying school kids won’t be up while we head north. There could be a bit of path traffic on the way back.

With the Thirroul Beach cafe without the gazebos for a short time, we’ll not bake there but will ride back to Bulli Beach Cafe and enjoy their coffee.

 

 

Specific Hazards: Kids travelling a bit fast on their fat bikes on the trip back. Specific Abilities: The cafe queue could be a bit long.

Tue 07 Apr, 2026   Cycle: Albion Park, Shellharbour, Links Loop – Rat Run Reccy

This is a Reccy with maximum of 10 riders.

Along the south edge of Lake Illawarra, via Oak Flats to Reddall Reserve, then Barrack Point. Through Shellharbour to The Links Golf Course in Shell Cove for coffee. Mainly cycleway. Some streets and a hill in and out of Shellharbour. Lake and ocean views.

Then comes the Reccy
From the Links, cycle down to Shellharbour Junction station and under Shellharbour road into leafy Flinders along cycle paths. Then a hill coming up to Pioneer drive. Quiet streets descending into Oak flats. Return on back streets to Albion Park Rail.

Easy coastal ride. Cycle path and best beach scenery. Mostly flat and relaxed riding; short section on road at Thirroul. A couple of stops at Towradgi and Sandon Point. Leisurely coffee at Thirroul Beach Pavillion.

Ride terminates at Thirroul. Optional return to start at own pace.

A different one way ride for the odd occasion. Catch the all stations train to Wombarra. Have a friend help you with the 6 kilometre per hour throttle your e-bike probably has to wheel up the shallow steps at the station. With or without throttle,  help will be offered. The reward is  a very peaceful ride along Buttenshaw Drive to Austinmer, down the steep hill and onto the northern bike path at Thirroul all the way to coffee at Longboard at City Beach. The train to catch leaves Port Kembla at 7:56 all stations to Coniston at 8;07, North Gong at 8:12, Corrimal 8:18 and Thirroul at 8:28. If coming from Oak Flats be on the 7:30. Unanderra at 7:46 getting to Coniston at 7:51. Please change at Coniston and wait for 16 minutes.

Specific Hazards: Moving your bike from the train. Help will be provided.. The steep hill down.into Austinmer. Test your brakes are OK before leaving home Specific Abilities: Enjoying the quiet hillside and ocean views.

Train to Central for Light rail to Leichhardt North.
The Cove to Cooks is an environmental and active travel corridor linking Parramatta River at Iron Cove to Cooks River at Earlwood. It mainly follows the route of the Light Rail with walk/bike paths, with cultural and historical sites.

Mon 20 Apr, 2026   Paddle: Paddle the Murray River from Tocumwal – CANCELLED

Starting at Tocumwal, after a car shuffle to leave vehicles in Moama, paddling for 5 or 6 days down the Murray to Moama through the Barmah National Park.  Camping will be by the river with all requirements to be carried by participants.  Possible exploration of Barmah Lake.

Specific Hazards: Usual Kayaking hazards, submerged trees, willow strainers, snakes, goannas, ants, spiders, wasps, exposure, slippery surfaces, Specific Abilities: Ability to camp from your kayak for 5 or 6 days carrying all camping equipment, food, water or a means of safely getting water from the river, ability to paddle 40 to 50 km per day river assisted, first aid and rescue skills highly desirable

Tue 21 Apr, 2026   Cycle: Eleven (or maybe 12) Sydney Bridges – Southbound: Milsons Point to Caringbah – Joint club ride with Bike North

From Milsons Point, ride over SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE, PYRMONT BRIDGE, ANZAC BRIDGE, IRON COVE BRIDGE, the suspension BRIDGE over IRON COVE CREEK  on the Bay Run, then via the Greenway to the 3 BRIDGES over the COOKS RIVER, 2 BRIDGES in the new SCARBOROUGH WETLANDS including the spiral bridge over President Avenue Kogarah and finally the CAPTAIN COOK BRIDGE,  en route to Caringbah Station. The total route length is 47km. Of that, roughly 40km is waterside although some water is tidal. Only 1400 metres of the 47km is NOT specifically designated for pedestrians and cyclists. It is: cycleway, or shared path, or quiet designated on-road bike route, or parkland, or public spaces such as Barangaroo or substantial excellently preserved timber wharves. The route has come into being with 3 significant new pieces of infrastructure this year meeting  up with existing bike routes.

Attractions include: the scenery, almost continuous water views, cityscapes, parklands, wetlands, historic and special bridges. Other than accessing the 3 longest bridges this ride is flat.

This ride is a joint club ride with fellow Bicycle NSW affiliate, BIKE NORTH who will join us at Milsons Point.

Coffee and lunch venues are still being selected. Chances are that coffee won’t be until about 11. Bring a snack, and lunch if you want. BYO lunch most likely at Wolli Creek

Train to Rhodes, walk through the “Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway”, then along the Parramatta River foreshore, viewing the historical “Thomas Walker Convalescent Hospital” in Concord West and heritage listed “Yaralla Estate” and gardens. Onto Breakfast Point to Cabarita Wharf for ferry to Circular Quay and Central.

NEARLY FULLY BOOKED – Register with leader before making an accommodation booking.

A 3 night weekend to walk a couple of sections of the  Murramarang South Coast Walk. We did some southern sections with John last year so we’ll concentrate on northern sections this time. Grade 3 up to 10km per day, hilly or rocky at times. Option for a second leader to take on more.
We’ll be on our way back from Victoria and I’ve booked a site at Pretty Beach NPWS camping area – arriving Friday 15th May, departing Monday 18th. If any members would like to join us make your own booking either at the camping area or cabins etc at Ingenia Holiday Park Merry Beach which is only 1km or so back along the road.

Specially designed itinerary by Trade Travel to include flights to and from Cairns, visits to local rainforest, talks by local experts on rainforest and reef, visit to art deco town Innisfail, guided excursions from Mission Beach into national parks and islands with historical/scientific talks and easy walks. Options to visit the reef and extend your stay.  Joint trip with National Parks Association. Initiated by NPA Book Club from discussion of Iain McCalman’s biography of conservationist pioneer John Busst.
