Our club has received the good news that one of our former members, Pam Robinson, has been given the Chardon Award by Bushwalking NSW.
Pam was a bushwalker from a very early age and had joined the fledgling NPA formed ahead of the National Parks and Wildlife Service founding in 1967. She helped establish the Wollongong branch of the NPA in 1980 and served many times as President.
In 1991 The Illawarra Ramblers had come into being. Pam most likely joined within a year. While Pam did not serve on the Ramblers Committee, her roles as an activity and a trip leader earned her a very rare Rambler’s Life Membership. Many walks in the Rambler’s walk library can be attributed to Pam.
Pam was an avid conservationist and participated in many activities from the Franklin Dam protest to the State government’s seed funding program.
Bushwalking NSW have invited Pamela’s family to attend and receive the award on her behalf at their AGM on 18 August, held at the Heritage Room, NSW Teachers Federation, 23–33 Mary Street, Surry Hills (with a Zoom option for those who can’t make it in person). Ramblers members are invited to attend. The evening runs from 6pm for a 6:30pm start, and the Chardon Award presentation is scheduled for around 8:30pm.
